Clark County authorities contact many sex offenders

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Officers in Clark County, Indiana made contact with many of the sex offenders there over the weekend.

With students back in school, officers stopped by homes to make sure sex offenders in Clark County are living where they're registered and have the proper verification.

216 offenders are registered in that county.  Officers verified the location of 102 of those offenders. Of the others, some did not have the correct address reported.  Others are in the hospital or in jail.

Here is some statistical breakdown from "Project Verify"

  • 216 Offenders that are registered living in Clark County
  • Officers made in-person verification with 102 offenders
  • 22 offenders are reported not to be living at the correct address.  Several of these have been absent or evicted with ion the past few months according to witnesses at the address.
  • Officer did not get a response at the door at 52 offenders' home.  This may include that the offender was not home or refused to answer the door for the officers.
  • 3 offenders are currently in medical care facilities.
  • 7 offenders are currently in custody in jail
  • Of the 22 offenders not living at the correct address, 7 of those had warrants for Failure to Register prior to "Project Verify"
  • Off the 216 offenders, 8 of those offenders have moved away from Clark County and are no longer living here.

22 Offenders did not possess a valid Indiana driver's license or ID card as required by law
