Sen. McConnell looks at Kentucky impact of president's healthcare law

Posted: Updated:

SHELBYVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Kentucky U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell was talking healthcare with Shelbyville residents on Monday.

The senator is going around to hospitals to see the direct impact President Obama's healthcare law will have on people in Kentucky.

McConnell says Congress did not do anything to drive down the cost of health insurance, and that's why there are 30 to 40 million people uninsured.  "We took a meat ax to healthcare," McConnell said, "when we should have pulled out a scalpel, carefully crafted adjustments.  Number one -- why not have health insurance companies competing on a national basis.  Competition does amazing things."

McConnell also believes the bill should have mentioned something about medical malpractice or lawsuit reform.
