Clarksville couple arrested after police find pot plants in house

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Clarksville police say they arrested a husband and wife after finding an estimated $100,000 in pot and growing equipment in their basement.

They say an anonymous tip led officers to the home of Mark and Kelley Kennedy on Blackiston Ridge Court Monday morning.

Officers found what they believe is a "sophisticated growing operation" in the home located in a quiet, upper-class neighborhood.

A detective first smelled pot when he knocked at the door.

Major Darrell Rayborn, from Clarksville Police, says, "We found approximately 45 different marijuana plants in different stages growing in the basement with lights, ventilation systems and everything."

This leaves people living in the area feeling uneasy, questioning how well they really know the family next door.

Robin Augustinho says, "I don't think of Clarksville or this area as the type of area where you would see something like that, for it to be four houses down from me is a little bit scary."

The Kennedys were being held in the Clark County Jail.

They are charged with cultivating and possessing marijuana, and with maintaining a common nuisance in the neighborhood.

Police notified child protective services about the couple's two boys.
