JCPS superintendent makes the rounds of schools

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- JCPS Superintendent Donna Hargens was making her rounds on the first day of school.  She told WDRB News:  "I'm going to be in schools all day, so I'll be throughout the county in schools, meeting and greeting students and parents. And then at the end we'll debrief about the day."

Hargens says throughout her second year on the job, student achievement will continue to be her focus.  That means working to boost state test scores and the high school graduation rate.

80 new assistant principals can now be found throughout the district's elementary schools.  Hargens says that's part of her approach to downsizing the number of people in the central office and putting more people in the classroom:  "Assistant principals are one really great example.  We want principals to be instructional leaders, we want counselors to be able to counsel, so the assistant principals are integral to making sure things run well at the elementary level."
