West Nile Virus discovered in mosquitoes in southern Indiana

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- The West Nile Virus has turned up in mosquitoes in southern Indiana.  Clark County health officials say the pool of mosquitoes was found during a routine seasonal sampling in Jeffersonville.

Residents are urged to take precautions such as using repellant that contains DEET, wearing protective clothing, and avoiding being outside from dusk to dawn when mosquitoes are most active.

There have not been any human cases of West Nile in Clark County so far.

Elsewhere in Indiana, two people have died from the virus this year.
