LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Jefferson County Constable charged with shooting a woman in a Walmart parking has rejected a plea deal.

The shooting happened in the parking lot of the Walmart on Raggard Road on November 2. That's when Whitlock told police he tried to stop an alleged shoplifter as she was driving away, but she ran over his foot. Whitlock said he drew his weapon and fired one shot that struck the woman in the arm.

In paperwork filed in court, Whitlock says he wants the case to go to trial -- despite his attorney's advice to take the deal.

Prosecutors had offered Whitlock a deal that would have allowed him to plead guilty to assault under extreme emotional distress and wanton endangerment.

Under the terms of the deal, Whitlock could never work in law enforcement again.

If convicted, Whitlock could face between five and fifteen years in prison. He's scheduled to return to court in September when a trial date will be set.
