Indianapolis homeowner says he shot burglar in leg

Posted: Updated:

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A homeowner says he shot and wounded a man who had broken into his family's home in a suburban Indianapolis neighborhood.

Wallace Turner tells WTHR-TV and WISH-TV that he, his wife and their 5-year-old daughter were sleeping when the intruder kicked open their home's back door about 1:45 a.m. Friday.

Turner says he confronted the man and shot him in the leg. The intruder got outside, but collapsed behind the house in a neighborhood near Decatur Central High School on the southwest side of Indianapolis.

Police didn't immediately release any information about the wounded man, who was taken to a hospital for treatment. Police said other home break-ins in the neighborhood were being investigated.
