Granddaughter charged in death of Okolona woman

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The granddaughter of a woman found dead on Judge Blvd. has been charged in her grandmother's murder.

Louisville Metro Police spokesman Dwight Mitchell says 21-year-old Ellen Crawley has been charged with murder, robbery, burglary, tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse in the death of 62-year-old Mary McClain.

McClain was found dead near her home on Judge Blvd. last Monday, August 27.

Police say Crawley admitted that she unlawfully entered her grandmother's home the day before, on August 26. They say she admitted that she had a physical altercation with McClain and caused her grandmother's death.

They say Crawley admitted to placing her grandmother's remains in several different locations before putting her body in a trash can.

Officials also say Crawley admitted to taking money and jewelry from her grandmother's residence after McClain was dead.

The coroner's office said earlier this week that they were not able to determine how McClain died until test results came back from an autopsy.
