LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Breckinridge County officials say Robert Waddell, who escaped from the Breckinridge County Jail Thursday night, has been located and is in police custody.

Waddell was found at around 4:30 Saturday afternoon in Breckinridge County in the North Fork Community, close to Rough River Lake.

He was seen at the Rivershack Store at North Fork Bridge, and store employees called police. Waddell left the store and was taken into custody in a camping area near Highway 259.

Waddell's new charges include escape, kidnapping, assault, wanton endangerment and theft by unlawful taking.

Waddell was serving a sentence for rape when he escaped from the Breckinridge County Jail while being transported back to the facility from a hospital Thursday night.

He overpowered the deputy in charge by poking him with a sharp object and took control of the jail vehicle. He then drove the deputy several miles before dumping him in a rural area, stealing his shoes and driving off with the vehicle.

The deputy walked to the nearest residence and called police. Officials in the area have been searching for Waddell since the incident occurred.
