LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Papa John's Cardinal Stadium was packed despite the bad weather. And fans of the home team were singing in the rain.
It began as a wet and dreary afternoon, but when it was over, it was all sunshine for Cardinal fans.
Long time Cardinal fan Dennis Potter was not about to let a steady rain fall dampen his tailgate party.
"It's great football weather, buddy. We love it. Most fun I ever had at a football game was Florida State. It rained four inches. We're ready."
And the lone Wildcat fan, Dennis Morris, was outnumbered but not backing down.
"It's been a wild day for me, actually. How have you handled it? Bud Light!"
But by game time, the skies began to clear, and the stadium was electric.
In Section 103, blue and red were co-existing -- sort of.
"It's going to be alright. We're going to hang in there," said Cat fan Dennis Rumph.
"We're going to be alright until the 4th quarter gets close and then we'll be at each other," said Cards fan Brandon Coogle.
But it was never really close. Louisville took command early and never looked back.
When it was over, the Cards kept custody of the Governor's Cup.
"Going all the way!"
"Big East Champions for sure!"
And in Section 103, despite the Cards big win, both sides found something to worry about.
"Gotta lot of work to do. Yeah. A lot of work to do," said Rumph.
"I was wanting it to be 50-14, not 32-14. 50-14," said Coogle.
For Cardinal fans, a season of high expectations gets off to a great start. As for the Wildcat faithful, they leave feeling blue.
