Illinois woman arrested after attempted traffic stop, chase

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON COUNTY, Ind. (WDRB) -- Indiana State Troopers in Jackson County arrested a 62-year-old Illinois woman Sunday night after she was observed driving at a high rate of speed and refused to stop.

According to a news release from the Indiana State Police post in Versailles, dispatchers alerted a state trooper of reports of a vehicle weaving in and out of traffic at an extremely high rate of speed in the southbound lanes of I-65 in Jackson County around 7:30 p.m. Sept. 3.

A few minutes later, Trooper Travis Linville saw the vehicle, a yellow 1989 Honda Prelude, and attempted to make a traffic stop at the 51 mile marker. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and "continued traveling at speeds in excess of 100 mph."

Near the Scott/Jackson County line, Scott County Deputies deployed Stop Sticks which caused the tires to deflate and the vehicle was eventually stopped near the 31 mile marker in Scott County.

Police arrested Gloria L. Risken of Savoy, IL, and booked her into the Jackson County Jail. She's charged with resisting law enforcement with a vehicle (a Class D Felony) and reckless driving.

Fortunately there were no injuries or property damage as a result of the chase.
