The Indiana basketball team, led by Cody Zeller, is ranked first nationally by the Athlon Sports College Basketball Yearbook.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – If you're a college basketball fan, and I know that you are, we are 38 days from the start of what should be a season unlike any other in Kentuckiana.
Ask the folks at the Athlon Sports College Basketball Yearbook. They have settled on their rankings for the 2012-13 – and take a look at the first three teams:
Mitchell Light, managing editor at Athlon Sports, told me that their yearbook is scheduled to be on the news stand Sept. 25.
Cody Zeller, Indiana's player of the year candidate, will be featured in the magazine in a Q&A.
"Indiana was a pretty easy choice as our preseason No. 1 team," Light said. "The Hoosiers welcome back so many key contributors from a very good team and add some really nice pieces in the freshman class. Cody Zeller was very good as a freshman and has a chance to be the National Player of the Year.
"Kentucky will once again be very, very talented. If the pieces fit together in the right way, the Wildcats will be right in the thick of the national championship race.
"Louisville is the favorite in the Big East and could be back in the Final Four for a second straight season. If Peyton Siva plays like he did down the stretch and Chane Behanan continues to develop, the Cards will have a dynamic inside-out combo that can compete with any duo in the nation."
Zeller is on the IU cover for Tom Crean's fifth Hoosiers' team. Peyton Siva, Rick Pitino's senior point guard, will be featured on the cover of one edition, as will Kentucky coach John Calipari.
