Clark County, Indiana (WDRB) --  It's started with a fight over Facebook. Then police say it turned into a real fight with punches and white out.

A Clark County, Indiana councilman and his wife were both arrested early Thursday morning and spent eight hours in jail before being released.

Sellersburg Police Chief Russ Whelan says Danny Yost was taken into custody after a domestic violence incident with his wife, Mary Yost.

Police say Yost's wife was complaining of wrist pain, while the councilman himself suffered irritation to his face after getting white out painted on him.

Whelan says, "During the investigation it was found, they had both basically battered each other one way or the other."

Yost says he's out of town on work unrelated to the councilman job, but he called WDRB to give his side of the story.

He says the fight with his wife in the kitchen started with him using her laptop to go on Facebook. He says he doesn't remember who he was messaging.

Danny Yost says, "I was typing some things and I think my wife was getting impatient with me. I was moving too slow and next thing you know she grabs a bottle of white out and opens it up and makes a mark across my eye by my forehead and I grab her arm so she didn't do it to me anymore."

The police report says Yost punched her in the stomach. He says, "Yeah I saw that and I don't recall doing that."

Someone in the home called 9-1-1, Yost says it was either his wife or two children.

At the police station, both Yost and his wife were interviewed separately. But Yost says he could clearly hear what was happening to his wife even though they were in different rooms.

Police say while handcuffed, Mary Yost went to a nearby bulletin board and pulled out a thumb tack with her mouth.

Whelan says, "She was trying to swallow it, and wouldn't spit it out.. consequently she was drive stunned with a taser and that worked."

Yost says, "I could hear the taser and I could hear her screaming."

Mary Yost is charged with domestic battery, disorderly conduct, and resisting law enforcement. Danny Yost is charged with domestic battery.  They are all misdemeanor charges.

Yost says, "It's embarrassing. I feel like you let people down. As a public servant, we should be held up to a higher standard."

Police say there have been problems in the past, but Yost denies that. Yost and his wife are expected to appear in court next week for their initial hearing.

There is an order for both of them to have no contact with each other. Yost says he has not talked to his wife and she is probably staying with family. He says they've been married for 24 years.

Yost says he'll be at the next council meeting on Monday. Yost represents Clark County's third district.
