SLIDESHOW: A close call for off-duty LMPD officer...

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police were on the scene of a serious traffic crash at Third and Eastern Parkway near the University of Louisville Thursday afternoon.

According to MetroSafe dispatchers, it happened about 2:15 p.m. That's when dispatchers say the cement truck fell over on to an LMPD officer driving his personal vehicle. The officer was stopped at the light at the time.

Police say it looks like the truck may have struck the overpass before it flipped over.

We're told the officer was able to remove himself from the vehicle and was conscious when he was taken to the hospital. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The driver of the cement truck was not injured.
