Former U of L football coach John L. Smith files for bankruptcy

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Former U of L football coach John L Smith has filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy over real estate investments in Kentucky.

USA today reports Smith - now the head coach at Arkansas - has assets of between $1 million and $10 million and debts between $10 million and $50 million.

In July, the coach said he was a partner in several land deals involving millions of dollars.

But now, he says he's broke because several of those deals have fallen through.

Arkansas hired him to replace Bobby Petrino, who was fired after hiring his mistress and giving her $20,000.
