Open mic night gives local residents a voice

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- In an effort to keep kids active, the Kentucky Center hosted an open mic night.

People of all ages took to the stage to express themselves. From singing and dancing, to reading poetry, tonight was full of creative dialogue.

Organizers say it gives people a chance to pursue their dreams. But it also opens up a whole new realm of conversation.

Organizers say having a way to express yourself is key to living a fulfilling life.

"The more creative outlets for young people the better and we just need a lot of places where people are really taking the time to be with one another and strengthen bonds across many generations," said ArtsReach director Julia Youngblood.

The program started about two and a half years ago, and is held every month at the Kentucky Center.
