Second section of Milton-Madison Bridge span lifted into place

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- It's another step forward for the Milton-Madison Bridge Project.  Monday a second section of the bridge was lifted onto temporary piers.  The first span was lifted into place in June.

Special hydraulic jacks and bundled strands of steel cable are lifting the 2,000-ton span to a height of about 90 feet.

The Ohio River is closed to commercial traffic as this work takes place.

When the entire bridge is in place on temporary supports, workers will demolish the old bridge and slide the new one into place.  The new bridge is expected to open in the spring.
