National Quartet Convention to leave Louisville after 2013

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The year 2013 will be the last year the National Quartet Convention will take place in Louisville, according to a news release.

After two decades of partnering with Freedom Hall and the Kentucky Expo Center, the annual meeting of southern gospel musicians will relocate.

The 2014 convention will be held in Pigeon Forge.

"The Expo Center staff and Fair Board are just like family to us, and we are looking forward to another 20 years," said Clarke Beasley, executive director of the convention. "However, economic realities being what they are, our present needs are served by a smaller performance venue. The shift in our demographics also means that we are looking for a different setting for our attendees."

In 2012, the National Quartet Convention brought 40,000 people to Louisville with an economic impact of $7.9 million, the release states.
