Chef Dean Corbett makes Alford plea in drug case

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Louisville restaurateur and chef Dean Corbett has made an Alford plea in a drug case against him.

Corbett entered the plea Tuesday to a misdemeanor of keeping prescription medicine in the wrong container.  In addition, Corbett will be part of a diversion program that will dismiss the conviction if he stays out of trouble for six months.

In the Alford plea, Corbett admits only that prosecutors have enough evidence to convict at trial.

Police arrested Corbett for allegedly dealing drugs out of his car.  Corbett said he was lending medication to a friend with cancer who had a prescription for the same drug.

A grand jury indicted Corbett last month for felony drug trafficking, after he was arrested last March.  His attorney negotiated the plea to the lesser charge.
