LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Shelli Yoder is Rep. Todd Young's challenger for Congress in Indiana's 9th District. Most recently, she worked as an Associate Director of Professional Development for Indiana University's Kelley School of Business.
She says she grew up watching her parents and grandparents run a filling station, which they lost in the recession of the 1980s. Yoder says she worked hard to put herself through college, even competing in and winning the title of Miss Indiana 1992.
Ms. Yoder holds a masters degree in counseling and human services, and another in divinity. She says she used her experience to "lead nonprofits, manage budgets, and work with very diverse populations to enhance people's lives."
Shelli Yoder says she wants her kids to be better off than she is. WDRB's Candyce Clifft asked what needs to happen in Washington to prevent the debt from being passed on to today's young people.
Yoder says the government needs to "prioritize" and that the nation needs "an economy that benefits all" and doesn't' favor the wealthy. She says small business need to stay strong because "they are fueling our economy today."
On the issue of the Affordable Care Act, Candidate Yoder said "I celebrate the benefits that patients and families have received as a part of this important piece of legislation."
