New Albany man expected to plead guilty to child porn charges

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- A New Albany man is expected to plead guilty to federal child pornography charges. But federal prosecutors caution, the plea deal is not final until it is accepted in open court.

Patrick Logan Durrett was arrested in March after FBI officials say he was sharing pornographic images of children, many of them under the age of five, with people online.

Undercover agents were among those who received the graphic pictures from Durrett. FBI agents and local authorities conducted a raid on the New Albany home where Durrett lived with his mother on March 15th. It was during that raid that U.S. Attorney Joseph Hogsett said agents discovered "hundreds" of images depicting "babies and toddlers" involved in sexual explicit acts.

Hogsett described the images as "unspeakable and the kind of thing that as a father keeps me up at night." Durrett was arrested that day and has been in the custody of U.S. Marshals ever since.

Federal court records show that during the March 15th raid, Durrett was interviewed by two special agents and admitted to being sexually attracted to children under the age of 5 and to looking at his collection daily.

Durrett is charged with distribution and possession of child pornography.

Barbara Harbison, who lives across the street from the home Durrett shared with his mother, said she watched as FBI agents and local authorities combed through the house in March.

"They had police on their backs and FBI on their backs and then they were taking off these bullet proof vests and I thought 'gee what's going on?'" she said.

Harbison says she didn't have much interaction with Durrett but was glad to hear of his arrest.

"There are a lot of children in this neighborhood," she said. Upon learning his arrest stemmed from child pornography, Harbison said "that's a little rough... that's a little rough."

No one answered the door at Durrett's home nor responded to a voicemail left at a number for the home. Neither of Durrett's attorneys returned calls to WDRB News seeking comment.
