Daniels aide calls Dem ethics complaint 'nonsense'

Posted: Updated:

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels' spokeswoman says a Democratic lawmaker's request for an ethics investigation into the governor's new job as Purdue University's president is "partisan nonsense."

State Rep. Charlie Brown of Gary contends Daniels violated state ethics rules when he used a state government email list to comment on $380,000 in renovations on the Purdue president's office.

Daniels spokeswoman Jane Jankowski says the governor was just trying to "set the record straight" when it sent out a statement asking Purdue officials to halt the work.

Brown has also asked Inspector General David Thomas to reconsider an opinion clearing the Republican governor to lobby state lawmakers as soon as he takes over at Purdue in January.

Jankowski says Thomas has already addressed that issue.
