LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- The traveling replica of the iconic Vietnam Memorial is on display in Clarksville, Indiana, and it's already drawing a crowd.

It is an 80 percent sized replica of the original wall in Washington, D.C.  It contains all 52,252 names.

Major Chuck Adams of the Clarksville Sheriff's Dept. helped raise $18,000 to bring the display to town.  "I remember that our troops were not supported," he said Thursday, "not welcomed home like the current-day wars and things that have gone on since.  So that's what we hope -- that some of the veterans can come here, see that we still do remember them, and we're trying to honor them the best way we can."

Other displays recognize those who fought in other wars -- World War II, Korea, Afghanistan, and Iraq, as well as first-responders who gave their lives, and 9/11 victims.

The experience of Vietnam is etched in memory for men like Dennis Lawrence.  "It was bad," he said Thursday.  "But I came through it. They didn't. They paid the best price."

Kathy Curran and family were focused on one name -- Harmon Bove, Jr., who was a good friend of Cathy's husband.  Curran says he, "Took the lead wherever he could. He took it out of this world, but he gave his life for a cause.

Veteran Bill White hopes to teach his four-year-old grandson, who came with his toy gun.  "Maybe just the idea that wars are not fun," White said of the experience.

Larry Schnyder traced the names of two friends from Henryville.  He said it, "Shows that somebody's finally appreciating them a little bit. It's a shame they had to die to do it."

The wall will be open 24 hours a day through Sunday, with a closing ceremony at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
