$10,000 donated to feed more local children

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Louisville's Blessings in a Backpack program is able to feed more local children thanks to a $10,000 donation.  Ronald McDonald Charities donated the money at a backpack stuffing event at Engelhard Elementary.

92 percent of the students there are on the free lunch program.  220 students at the school were given backpacks filled with food to take home over the weekend, but there is a need to feed twice that many.

Brooke Wiseman, the CEO of Blessings in a Backpack, explains, "Studies are showing close to three out of five children are hungry every day in school.  So on the weekends, that makes it even worse.  And so these bags of food really make the difference for a child to get through the weekend in a good way."

Blessings in a Backpack feeds 4600 JCPS students district-wide.
