LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Louisville's mayor got his hands dirty on Friday helping plant the first of one thousand trees donated to the city.
Waste management company Echotech made the donation as part of its 15th anniversary. The company will give the city 100 trees per year over ten years. City officials will decide the best place for the trees to grow.
Mayor Greg Fischer says, "We're in the process right now to raise money to hire a consultant to examine our tree canopy and see what our opportunities are along the way so we can beautify our city."
Fischer issued a community challenge to corporations and residents to match the donation with funds to go toward maintenance of the trees.
