City leaders discuss bringing NBA team to Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A group of city leaders have met to discuss bringing an NBA team to Louisville.

Former U of L guard and businessman Junior Bridgeman organized the meeting yesterday.

About 20 people -- including local business leaders, arena authority members and Mayor Greg Fischer attended the meeting.

Right now, there is no active deal on the table to bring an NBA team to Louisville. But Mayor Fischer remains optimistic.

"We discussed the possibility of an NBA team in Louisville, what level of interest and what are the conditions necessary to attract a team," the mayor said in a statement. "There was a lot of excitement in the room about what an NBA team could mean for Louisville's global recognition and as a job attractor and economic engine. It must be a win for the University of Louisville, as well as other stakeholders. I'm excited to be part of the dialogue, and I continue to believe we should be ready if an opportunity presents itself."

The KFC Yum Center is currently battling a financial hole and could use revenue from another tenant.
