Artists put scrap materials to good use

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The next time a child brings home an art project, it might be saving the environment.

These carpet and flooring samples will soon have a new purpose. The same is true for these bricks.

The interior design community donated the items that would otherwise end up in the landfill.

The project, called Zero Landfill, helps ensure items that would've normally been thrown out like flooring samples and bricks are "repurposed" for things like art projects.

"It's perfectly good stuff, there are so many creative people that have thoughts of what can be done with this stuff, and they can make something beautiful," says Lori Gibson of Zero Landfill.

Last year, the sponsors of Zero Landfill here in Louisville prevented 11-thousand pounds of waste from going to the landfill.
