Indiana officers investigate Whitewater River death

Posted: Updated:

BROOKVILLE, Ind. (AP) -- An Indianapolis canoeist has died in what Indiana conservation officers are calling a possible drowning.

Officer Stephen Miller says 24-year-old Clayton Seale had been canoeing on the Whitewater River in southeastern Indiana's Franklin County on Saturday when he went ashore to jump from a rope swing attached to a large tree. Witnesses told officers he did not resurface after jumping, and friends pulled him from the river and tried to resuscitate him.

Miller says Seale was pronounced dead at a medical facility in Harrison, Ohio.

He says the death is considered a possible drowning pending autopsy results.
