Boys and girls club opens in Parkland neighborhood

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Four months after two deadly shootings prompt a call for change in west Louisville, a local boys and girls club opens its doors.

The shootings in May happened just across the street from the Parkland Boys and Girls Club.

Four months later, a ribbon cutting ceremony officially reopened the club.

The facility has been completely renovated.

The boys and girls club includes a new basketball court, new computer lab and areas for young children to gather to do homework and find mentors.

"You want to influence kids before they get to the age of 10 years old 12 years and see that there is a big bright future ahead," says Louisville mayor Greg Fischer. "And the boys and girls club plays a critical role in that."

Several corporate sponsors and individuals helped raise money to reopen the center.
