Shawnee HS student arrested for bringing gun to school

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Officials have confirmed that a Shawnee High School student was arrested this morning after police say he had a gun on school property.

LMPD Officer Carey Klain says 18-year-old Derrick Tiller was arrested after the assistant principal at the school became suspicious and checked his school locker. The staff member then found the weapon in his backpack.

Jefferson County Public Schools communications specialist Ben Jackey says Tiller was arrested without incident and no threats were made.

Tiller has been charged with unlawful possession of a weapon on school property, the possession of a handgun by a minor and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.
