LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Say goodbye to the Toonerville Trolley. New electric buses that don't produce air pollution are replacing them.
Federal money is paying for the five new electric buses.
They will circulate along Fourth Street and the Main Street and Market Street corridor. They replace the old trolleys which are big polluters.
"It's certainly a game change for public transportation downtown, not just for getting people around but for kinda the image, also, that people see a bus like this and start to make them think about sustainability in the city and many different contexts as well," said Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer.
The new electric buses are expected to hit the road in about a year.
They're expected to save TARC about $10,000 a year in fuel costs.
They're also considered less expensive to maintain.
