JCPS official says middle school student had unloaded gun in backpack

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A student from Highland Middle School was taken into custody early Thursday after police say he brought a gun to school.

JCPS school spokesman Ben Jackey says teachers were told about the gun by another student who said it was in a backpack. After searching the backpack, administrators found the gun.

The gun was not loaded, and Jackey says the student had not made any threats.

We're told a letter to parents describing the incident will be sent home with students today.
