LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- They say you are what you eat, and today people learned how to eat a little healthier.
West Louisville hosted its first food summit at Chickasaw Park.
There has been a major effort to encourage stores to offer healthy fruits and veggies there. This was a place for people to learn what to do with them.
Venders were on hand, hosting several workshops including cooking, canning and gardening.
Organizers say it's important to live a healthy lifestyle.
"It's been called a food desert," says Metrocouncilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton. "There are a lot of fast food restaurants and not a lot of places to get healthy food, vegetables and things like that but that's been changing the last 2 years."
Exercise is also key to healthy living. Instructors held free zumba classes in the park.
