NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WDRB) -- Recruiters say the local job outlook is getting better, with several companies hiring seasonal workers for the holidays.

There are hundreds of job openings in Kentuckiana. Some are entry level, others are in management.  More than 100 people like Alex Thompson showed up at WorkOne New Albany, looking for a new job.

Horseshoe Casino is hiring hundreds of employees, including 80 in the Dealer School, along with supervisors, front desk clerks, housekeeping, and security.  Thompson says, "Most of my training is all military and security, so it's what I try to focus on."

The latest numbers show Indiana's unemployment rate is 8.3 percent. Kentucky is slightly higher at 8.5 percent.

Talisha Townsel says the job search has been difficult. "I just moved back here from Gary, so I am homeless right now. I did have a job. I thought I was coming back to it, but it didn't work out."

At WorkOne, there is a weekly job postings binder that has hundreds of jobs listed.  Recruiters say if you don't get a job right away, don't worry, keep on applying.

Adam Clark, a WorkOne Business Consultant says, "Connextions is very vocal about their hiring. They pay really well for a call center. You're talking about 12 plus dollars an hour. Amazon was paying $11. I believe they will be looking for seasonal really soon. If you are looking for general labor, you're talking $8 or $9 an hour."

Amazon has also listed on its website a number of openings in Jeffersonville including management positions.

Fanatics is also hiring a total of 1,200 seasonal employees for its National Turnpike facility in Louisville.

Heather Lafferre, a Horseshoe Recruiting and Training Specialist says, "We have positions that start around the $10-an-hour range. A lot of cook positions, maybe a prep cook. Our hotel front desk positions start around that range."

Townsel has applied at a number of hotels, but is hoping to get a job with Horseshoe. She says, "Housekeeping, that's what I specialize in. So, I can clean rooms. I can clean about anything, that's me."
