Company to pay $75,000 in penalties for New Albany gas explosion

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- The gas company Vectren has agreed to pay thousands of dollars in fines after a New Albany gas explosion last year.

The house on Woodrow Avenue and Market Street exploded last November, injuring the five people inside the house and one person outside.

Vectren has agreed to pay $75,000 in penalties.  The company says its workers failed to follow proper procedures for gas leaks before the explosion.

Documents show workers didn't notify authorities until after the house had exploded that they'd hit a pipeline.  The homeowners still can file legal action.
