Pregnant escapee now free on bond

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Floyd County Jail officials say a pregnant jail inmate who escaped custody is now free on bond, and family members say they're worried about her drug use.

Bridgette Sims appeared in court on theft and drug possession charges in Floyd County this afternoon.

The judge entered not guilty pleas on her behalf. Police arrested her on Saturday for shoplifting.

They found her with hydrocodone and discovered she is a heroin user, so they took her to the hospital.

That's where she made a run for it and family members tell us, called her boyfriend, Chris Gentry.

Sims turned herself in yesterday.

Gentry's mother -- who did not want her face show on camera - told us her son was waiting for Sims to post bond before surrendering.

"My hope for them is maybe they'll get into some chemical and substance abuse treatment and work hard together to stay straight," says Gentry's mother. "I'm worried about the grandbaby, I am."

At last word, Gentry is still at large. Sims returns to court later this week.
