LOUISVILLE, KY (WDRB NEWS) -- A Louisville shop owner and one of his customers have teamed up to open a new store in a popular shopping complex. It is the first store of its kind to come to Westport Village -- a clothing store just for men.
John Jackson operated a clothing store for men in West Louisville for many years, but he thought he would try something new and move his business interests eastward. "I just wanted to venture out," he says.
He has opened a store called Shirts, Ties, and Links at Westport Village, the shopping complex located between Herr Lane and Lyndon Lane just off Westport Road. "The people out here seem to very warm," says Jackson, "and they welcomed us out here and I just feel good that it is a good fit for me."
The store is a place for men who perhaps want to step away from those basic blues and grays that make up much of their wardrobe and jazz it up just a little bit.
Jackson's store has colorful displays of designer socks, bow ties, specialty shirts with French cuffs, as well as button-downs.
Jackson decided to open his store after being urged to do so by one of his customers. Charles Ellis has for the past four years owned and operated a tennis shop at Westport Village which he says has been very successful.
Jackson and Ellis are now business partners.
"I started talking to him about eight months ago," explains Ellis, "and I said, 'John, why don't you come out to Westport Village and let's start a partnership and open a men's specialty shop.'"
Ellis says Westport Village is a good place to run a small specialty store. "All of the stores around here are so friendly and we all kind of look out for one another," says Ellis.
Jackson opened the new men's clothing store about a month ago but this weekend he will have a grand opening celebration.
"Colors are really a part of men's fashion right now," he says, "and you can tell a stylish man by the clothes he wears and a lot of times that means a lot of color."
