Metro Corrections inmate escapes, is quickly captured

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- A Metro Corrections inmate escaped around 6:30 Thursday morning, but by 11:30 was back in custody.  Police say Donnie Haycraft was on kitchen detail at the jail when he ran away after emptying a trash container.

His orange jumpsuit was found in some bushes on Liberty between Seventh and Eighth Streets.

Authorities then received a tip that he was at a residence in the 4800 block of Cofer Street.  LMPD and Metro Corrections officers, along with a K-9 unit, went there and took him back into custody.

Haycraft was originally arrested after police say they found a large number of stolen appliances in a storage facility that Haycraft had been renting.  It's believed they were taken from homes for sale.

Now a charge of escape has been added to the charges he already faced.
