Historic school to become home for dozens of families

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- A historic school will be transformed into a home for dozens of families.  Family Scholar House celebrated the groundbreaking of its new campus in west Louisville Thursday morning.

Next year, the Parkland school, which was built in the 1890s, will become home for nearly 50 families.  The historic school will be renovated to provide apartment homes for single-parent families, and will include a computer lab, community kitchen, and a playground.

Cathe Dykstra explains, "Parkland Scholar House is our fourth.  It's our first in western Louisville and it's really important to support the ones that are already here."

The $10 million construction project was made possible thanks to tax credits and support from the city and other organizations.
