Suspected Indiana serial killer's trial to be held in Floyd County

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- The trial of an accused serial killer will be held in his home county, according to a judge.

William Clyde Gibson is accused of killing three women, and was recently found mentally competent to stand trial for the murder of 75-year-old Christine Whitis in February, and then for 35-year-old Stephanie Kirk.

Both are death penalty cases.

Gibson's third trial, for the death of Karen Hodella, has not been set.

On Friday, a judge ruled that Gibson's trial will take place in Floyd County, Ind., but the jurors will be pooled from Dearborn County, Ind.

In court on Friday, Gibson appeared much thinner. The victim's family said it looked like he'd aged a lot.

Families are happy the trial will stay in Floyd County -- which makes it much easier for them to attend.

Prosecutor Keith Henderson says the county will have to pay for transportation and hotel costs for the jurors since they will be sequestered.

He expects the first trial for the death of Christine Whitis to last a few weeks.

Jurors will be selected also a few weeks before the Feb. 18 trial date.
