CRAWFORD: Tweets from press row - Bilas tabs Cards No. 1

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Some random observations, Twitter style, in 140 characters or less . . .

ESPN's Jay Bilas checked in with his preseason Top 5 today: 1. U of L; 2. IU; 3. UK; 4. Kansas; 5. Michigan.

# Bilas also tabbed Louisville's Peyton Siva a first-team All-American.

# We love our golf in Louisville. The city ranked No. 4 in Ryder Cup TV ratings, behind West Palm Beach, Ft. Myers and Greensboro, N.C.

# It's Tuesday, time for our weekly check in on the ACC.

# It still stinks.

# Still waiting for the scathing analysis of the West Virginia and Baylor defenses from Saturday's 70-63 Mountaineer win.

# All I heard from the Fox commentators afterward were, "Amazing game." Exemplifies the conference double standard.

# After U of L beat WVU combined for 1,18 yards in a 44-34 win to move to No. 3 in BCS standings, the nation screamed about the defense.

# Jason Whitlock was quoted by the AP after that game, "I was shocked at how poorly the defenses played."

# After the WVU-Baylor game Saturday, Whitlock tweeted, "Geno Smith wrapped up the Heisman? 8 TD passes."

# In Whitlock's defense, he is mainly an NFL guy now, and he's not giving his full game take. But it exemplifies the difference.

# It's the same all over the media.

# U of L's defense in that WVU game, by the way, included Amobi Okoye, William Gay and Abe Brown.

# The Harrison Twins from Texas, the top prep players in 2013 class, will reveal their college choice on ESPNU Thursday.

# The decision is down to UK and Maryland (or, as I like to view it, Nike and Under Armour).

# Their dad told USA Today that the only people with their phone numbers are the two coaches and an Under Armour rep.

# Nah. Nothing could go wrong there.

# It's not so uncommon. The Olsen Twins' dad had the same arrangement with Walmart.

# What tipped off Michigan State that Ohio State might've doctored some game video? Urban Meyer was being played by Ed Harris.

# When WDRB's Tom Lane asked John Calipari in a one-on-one, "Are you overranked?" Calipari said, "I would say so. What have we done?"

# Calipari added, "We may start the season 0-2 against Maryland and Duke -- and be good."

# Cal said he doesn't trust media polls, "But if Vegas has us rated high, I probably feel good."

# The Las Vegas Hotel and Casino lists IU as its 2013 NCAA title favorite at 7-1, U of L at 8-1, UK as third choice at 12-1.

# The NCAA has opened up an investigation of Notre Dame Prep in Massachusetts, a high school powerhouse.

# The NCAA still hasn't reopened an investigation into a widening academic scandal at the University of North Carolina, a college powerhouse.

# NCAA president Mark Emmert, however, has finally acknowledged that the NCAA might have to take another look at UNC.

# The New York Times thinks Louisville should stop building more bridges and route more people downtown.

# Something tells me that writer wasn't anywhere around here when the Sherman Minton bridge was shut down.

# Monday was a sad day in New Orleans -- the Times-Picayune published its final daily print edition.

# U of L coach Charlie Strong is appearing on the Jim Rome radio show at 12:35 p.m. on Wednesday.

# Two hours before that, Rick Bozich will appear with me on WDRB's SportsPage Live webcast at 10:30 a.m. at WDRB.com.
