LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Western Middle School students are getting their questions answered about cancer. The all-school project started with every student reading a book about a 13-year-old boy whose five-year-old brother is diagnosed with Leukemia.
Wednesday morning, Dr. Cesar Rodriguez of the James Graham Brown Cancer Center let students ask him questions about the disease so they could be better informed. Classes then challenged each other to a penny war which raises money to help children with cancer and their families.
As Skylar Weedman, a 7th grader, explained, "At lunch every day, we have these three buckets, for 6, 7, 8th and every day we try to raise money to help these kids with cancer. So far it's going really good, I think the 7th grade has $34."
The book is called "Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie."
