LOUISVILLE, Ky.  (WDRB) -- New documents filed Wednesday show former University of Louisville football coach John L. Smith is more than $40 million in debt.

That figure comes from federal bankruptcy court in Arkansas, where Smith now coaches the Arkansas Razorbacks.

The figure is higher than the $25 million reported in his first bankruptcy filing last month.

Most of the debt owed to several Louisville banks after local real estate investments lost value in the recession.

The documents outline Smith's current finances in detail, including revelation that he has just $107 per month available after he meets all his expenses for rent, food, clothing, etc.

Smith coached U of L football from 1998-2002.
