Keith Kaiser takes a look at some rare and elegant cars before this weekend's Concours d'Elegance.
The 2012 Louisville Concours d'Elegance at historic Churchill Downs happening Sunday, October 7, with gates opening at 11 a.m.
This year's public event, where many of the world's rarest, most elegant and historic collector cars will be on display benefits Kosair Children's Hospital.
The Louisville Concours d'Elegance is quickly becoming one of the premier Concours events in the country, placing a strong emphasis on vehicle authenticity and originality.
Many of the most well-known names in the car collector community travel to Louisville each year to have their cars judged by some of the best judges in the world in hopes of taking home the coveted "Best in Show" crystal trophy.
This year's featured marques will be Cadillac and Porsche Racing.
Celebrating over 5 decades of success in the motorsport field, Porsche continues to be a significant name on the racing circuit.
Cadillac is known for some of the most luxurious and well-engineered automobiles in the world.
Many elegant early, vintage and pre-war Cadillac's and well-known Porsche's racing models will be on display and will be judged at this the 2012 Louisville Concours d'Elegance.
Families are invited to view the cars on display, as well as enjoy other highlights of the day including:
· Live entertainment
· Refreshments available for purchase
· "Kids & Cars" tent featuring free children's activities
· Automotive artists exhibit
· Vintage fire truck display
· Military vehicles and triage tent display
General admission tickets for the 2012 Louisville Concours d'Elegance are available online or by calling (502) 629-KIDS.
Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the gate. Children 12 and under are free. VIP tickets are also available for $100 and include lunch and drinks in the VIP tent area.
