Judge won't allow grocery stores to sell liquor...yet

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- A judge is halting an order that would lead to grocery stores, gas stations, and other retailers being allowed to sell wine and liquor.

U.S. District Judge John Heyburn ruled back in August that Kentucky's law keeping those outlets from selling wine and liquor is unconstitutional -- but he says allowing those expanded liquor sales to go forward before lawmakers can modify the state statute could cause confusion.

The state and liquor specialty stores say they plan to appeal the decision to the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati.  Judge Heyburn ruled that the appeal is unlikely to succeed.
