LOUISVILLE, Ky.  (WDRB) -- Metro police say a woman was killed and a man was injured after an accident on the Sherman Minton bridge Thursday evening.

Police say a car struck the couple, believed to be in their 20s, after they got out of their SUV in the far right lane of the bridge's westbound level.

Apparently, they had run out of gas.

The woman died at University of Louisville hospital, LMPD spokesperson Alicia Smiley said.

The man was hurt, but Smiley says his injuries do not appear life-threatening.

Police reopened the bridge to all traffic about 10:35 p.m.

The coroner's office has not released the name of the woman who died.
