Dixie Highway business owner tears down hated fence

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- A Dixie Highway business owner has torn down a park fence he contends obscures his business.

Rodney Daugherty owns Digital Systems, which sits next to Rose Farm Park.  That park is part of an effort to improve the area and attract more businesses.  The greenspace has been in the works for more than three years and is also meant to provide better drainage, but existing businesses, including Rodney Daugherty's, are not happy with the fence that keeps the park secluded.

District 12 Metro Councilman Rick Blackwell, however, has remained adamant that some sort of fence must stay there.

Digital Systems sits on the other side of the fence, barely visible from the street.  Eight feet of the fencing came down as business owners and city leaders compromised, but local businesses want to see it torn down completely.

On Friday, Daugherty apparently decided not to wait anymore and did just that.  Photos taken at the scene show the fence coming down and Daugherty celebrating beneath his business's sign, which reads, "Thanks for nothing, Blackwell."

Efforts to contact Councilman Blackwell late Friday for a response were unsuccessful.
