LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Bright balloons lit up Waterfront Park this evening to raise awareness about a deadly disease.

The Light the Night Walk raises money for leukemia and lymphoma research.

Participants walked through the park with the balloons in memory of those who have died from blood cancer diseases and in support of those who have survived.

The event is held each year in more than 200 cities and towns around the country.

Participants carried red balloons in honor of friends or family who are coping with a blood cancer or white balloons in memory of a person who has died.

Survivors of leukemia and lymphoma carried gold balloons.
