LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two dozen people are without a home tonight after a fire destroys part of the roof at a Lyndon apartment complex.
Five fire units responded to the fire that broke out around 4:30 this afternoon.
Officials believe the fire started on the third floor of the Westbury Harbour Apartments, and spread to the attic.
It took crews more than a half hour to get the blaze under control, but all residents got out safely.
"Thought somebody was burning something on the stove, and just it got a little thicker real quick," says apartment resident David Ewing. "So I got all my family and we got out, knocked on all the doors I could get to before the smoke started rolling out, and we just headed out here."
Officials say the 24 people who live in these apartments have been displaced, and are getting help from the Red Cross.
Investigators do not know the cause of the fire.
