Starting this week, University of Kentucky basketball fans can purchase a piece of history when the first pieces of the court on which UK won its eighth national championship go up for auction.
The first piece will be up for bid Thursday at noon, with proceeds to raise money to fight pediatric cancer. UK coach John Calipari signed the first piece of the court, which was donated by Northwestern Mutual.
Fans will have just one week to bid on 300 pieces of the floor which will be auctioned online at 2012UKFloor.com until noon Oct 18.
The top 300 bidders will get one of the signed, numbered pieces which come with a certificate of authenticity.
Money generated by the auction benefits pediatric cancer efforts at Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville and Kentucky Children's Hospital in Lexington.
A portion of the floor also is being installed in the newly renovated locker room at Rupp Arena.
